They were very receptive to the idea. Wendy, Connie, Deborah Pomeroy and Trish Schurkamp visited the college. Deborah thought it would be a good place to hold the Chautauqua. Contact was made with Lori Trombow, dean of business and Continuing Education. The college agreed to allowing us to have the Chautauqua there. They are also holding the field house open during the evening in case of inclement weather.

 Committee Reports:

Tent Setup and Takedown: Gordon Criswell stated he was still talking to groups such as the Community Bank and Teletak, about the Chautauqua tent raising. Trish told Gordon about the possibility that Bettse is working on for volunteers at the Open Door Church. Bettse is also looking into the possibility of Open Door hosting the social after the tent raising.

Local Entertainment: Sarah Bohndorf reported she had contacted several groups. She asked for any suggestions and stated she would continue to see what was available.

Publicity and Promotion: Helen Marie Fotovich reported the committee was looking at print and broadcast advertising. Helen Marie is working on the radio PSAs, while Janet Vogel is working on the print PSAs.

Finance/Fundraising: Marty Porter reported that a request to write a grant to BPU/Checker Flags requesting $2000 was sent out, as well as a grant to the Dunn Foundation for $1000. It was suggested that we speak to Wal-Mart in Bonner Springs and Kansas City Kansas about possible funding.

Motel Room and Passenger Cars: Jennifer Tarwater reported that Karen Roberts’ husbands company would be donating two passenger cars for use by the Chautauquans.

Concession: Connie Steele and Wendy Scheidt are working on getting concessions for the Chautauqua. They are looking to have foods relating to what character is on stage that night, for example, when Sacagawea is on stage having foods that are related to Native Americans. They stated that 3-4 groups have expressed interest.

Workshops: Kim Martin and Jennifer Tarwater have worked hard at putting together the various locations for the workshops. They have almost all of the workshops booked. The Shepard Center has expressed interest in hosting a workshop. They will try to contact someone there.

Helen Marie Fotovich and Erica Gardner have accepted the chair for the pre-event. The pre-event will be open to committee members, donors, volunteers and Wyandotte County Lewis and Clark committee members.

During new business Marlene Stuart asked about having Red Cross out to take care of first aid issues. Janet stated that she would look into having them at the site.

The next meeting is Wednesday, March 19, at 5 p.m. at the Kansas City Kansas Public Library – West Wyandotte Branch.

The meeting concluded at 6:30 p.m.
