Monument
Helen Marie Fotovich reported that she is working with Dr. Daniels, Kansas City Public Schools, on this project. The goal is to allow all of the students in the Kansas City Public School system an opportunity to "design" the monument.

Mural
Kit Bardwell, Accessible Arts, reported that they had decided to paint the opposite side of the wall from the original plan. She stated that the design and implementation was easy enough for anyone to do it - whether they had art skills or not.

Activities
Mary Conrad stated that she knew of two women with the Missouri Humanities Council who might be able to help us with serving and teaching "Lewis and Clark Foods."

Mary Conrad also suggested Steve Allie would be another good speaker for the event.

Helen Marie stated that Marlene Stuart might be willing to help with serving American Indian type foods.

Preliminary Budget
Much discussion was had regarding money needed for the event and ways to off-set the cost. Concern as to whether the committee would be responsible for raising the money or the taskforce was voiced. I told them that we might have to help in the raising of the funds, but that there was now a woman hired to raise funds for the taskforce and it's committee needs.

Advertising the event was of great concern. Several avenues were discussed:
Busses (Wyandotte County, Metro, Tiblow Transit and Johnson County): Kit Bardwell believed this to be a reasonable inexpensive way to advertise and to reach a large group of people

Bill Boards: Russell Archuleta stated that they could be expensive, but that it is possible to get sponsors to pay for the billboard. He asked what would the purpose be of the billboard and where would we want it placed. He stated that people only see the billboard for 6-8 seconds. Billboards can be as much as $2500 to $5000 and that they generally want a 3-6 month commitment.

Russell mentioned several other ways to advertise that would be virtually cost-free:
Press Releases to Newspapers and Family Publications
Flyers/Brochures to Visitors' Centers
CVB Calendars
Trail Guides
School Newsletters
Museum and Society Newsletters
Business Newsletters
Fort Newsletters
Some T.V. and Radio weekend calendars
Many of these publications also have areas for paid advertising, as well.

Off-setting a small amount of the costs would be through concessions. We discussed that we would not want concessions that were inappropriate for the event. It was discussed that we simply outsource the concessions and take a cut of their income. Kit mentioned that with food we would need to make sure that we check out food vending type licenses that we would need. We are also going to have to check to see if we would need an event license.

Loren Taylor reminded the group that the "Corps" would have their store in which they would be selling items to help their cause.

A question was asked if the Taskforce would have an information table. Mary Conrad stated that groups could "adopt" the information table and take care of it during their watch. Discussion was had regarding the building that will be available for a possibility of having the information table there, as well as telling the story of Kaw Point and how it has served Kansas City, Kansas through the years.

The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, December 4, 2003 at 5:30 p.m. at the Wyandotte County Museum.
