Unified Government Mayor Carol Marinovich helped break ground on a six-acre riverfront park at Kaw Point in Kansas City, Kansas. The ceremony included Mayor Marinovich, Congressman Dennis Moore, Kaw Nation representative Betty Durkee, representative of Governor Kathleen Sebelius' office Kathy Greenlee, State Senator David Haley, EPA Regional Administrator Jim Gulliford, Friends of the Kaw vice-president Mike Calwell, and Kansas Riverkeeper Laura Calwell. Dewayne Knott from Region 7 EPA portrayed Cpl Richard Warfington. A representative of Senator Sam Brownback's office was also present. About 125 people (and 4 Newfoundland dogs!) attended, including students from Washington High School, Olathe, and Project Choice.
